Rhythmic list of chores, tasks and errands
Go to the supermarket for supplies for work,
do photograph and save the receipt, and record
it in the expense report; book a check-up appointment
with dentist for July; unclog the sink drain,
wash the dishes, and purchase a standing fan online
for bedroom (with a pedestal so the air can reache
me on my bed); buy trousers online so I can stop
wearing dark but exposed, open flies, to work;
file my tax return using the phone app; choose holiday
dates in August, inform
building administrator
of the selected dates,
and pray that they bring in
the substitute from last
time so I don’t have to show him the ropes; pick up
the aforementioned online purchases at work
and take them home; clean
the room designated
for the upcoming owners’ association meeting;
check the one million keys they found in a box
and asked me to try in
the corresponding one
million locks
in the building;
then check the bank’s app
on my phone to see if tax refund arrived;
then go to the check-
up appointment booked with
the dentist; get started the holidays in August;
get my eyes checked and read
the book that the woman
at the wine shop gave me, and last, but not least,
tell the girls at the pharmacy that I won’t renew
my prescription and tell them some Eugenio’s joke
and let my wings fall
into their hands like Icarus
by Draper as I sigh (just by looking at nada
—from the Latin res nata: a thing born) that ours
is impossible love.
