On the idea of travelling by plane

I like the idea of travelling by plane. The aeroplane, the airport, the flight — they make everything take on a certain kind of importance. They instil the sense that something could happen (and I don’t mean that the aeroplane might crash — which, moreover, is a very remote possibility). Everything feels significant when you are in the midst of a journey by air. The world feels urgent, immediate, challenging and yet, at once, favourably unreal.
